Presidential Candidate Protection 

Costs to protect Obama as a 2007 presidential candidate have been variously estimated at $44,000-45,000 a day for round the clock protection.

Darrin Blackford, a US Secret Service spokesman, has also stated the the total cost for protecting the 2008 presidential candidates was a record setting $107 million.
