Attacks on Wal-Mart

Recently, I heard a professor on a radio program tsk-tsk that Americans don’t understand the real costs of shopping at Wal-mart, claiming they suffer from ‘mass hypnosis by bargain culture.’
Look, I live in a quirky old house and shop at charming mom and pop stores. These things matter to me. But I can’t stomach the notion that my tastes should dictate to others. It’s despicable for elites to decide their cultural values are more meaningful than Wal-Mart’s diaper values.
