Readers Rage back!

OUTRAGE ROUNDUP!

Readers Rage Back!

A day in the life of our postmaster

We are, of course, amazed that our readers occasionally disagree with our brilliant and witty essays. In fact, sometimes quite a few readers think that The Outrage editors are wrong, misanthropic, idiotic, selfish, deluded, or all of the above.

Mother Outrage always told us that even the dull and the ignorant should have their say, so we've allowed space below for those dissenting opinions (and for shameless flattery).

Name: Rick Richards (rlrichardsjr@mindspring.com) Time: 12/11/97 (7:15:53)
A very easy way to put the Ron Brown controversy to rest is to exhume the body and have an independent medical examiner perform a proper autopsy. If the hole in Ron Brown's skull is indeed the result of a .45 gunshot wound, was the military aircraft intentionaly crashed to cover up the apparent assasination? Did all the other people on board die because of this? This now makes two people who were part of the Clinton administration that have died without a clear understanding of how the deaths occured.

Name: Leszek Syski (lsyski@erols.com) Time: 12/10/97 (13:2:15)
Please keep in mind that Lorena Bobbit was forced to have an abortion by John Bobbit. Getting his penis cut off may have been the appropriate penalty for John's offence - the murder of his own child.

What about Roger Chaffee, who died along with Gus Grissom and Ed White on the pad? What about the other astronaut-trainees who died in aircraft "training accidents"? There had to be some, because NASA ended up limiting their flying hours a few years back to avoid losing too many to this risky activity. Anyone know the facts?

Name: Wynn Harris (wharris@tvi.cc.nm.us) Time: 12/10/97 (12:46:7)
F.Y.I. re: Major Robert Lawrence
It's my understanding that he met NASA's requirements for qualifing as an astronaut.

I guess I would just like to get further clarification on this "race card" concept which I've read so much about in your American media. The last time I checked race was not an arbitrary factor to be referenced only in those circumstances where it might grant some sort of advantage. All of the people of color I know walk in their skin all of the time, and in this country the color of that skin is anything but an arbitrary advantage. If you're so "OUTRAGED" by this "race card" why don't you work a little harder to level the playing field, instead of waisting time on useless jargon and catch phrases.

Uh, Christa McAuliffe was at least on a mission that would have qualified her for that honor had she not been blown up through no fault of her own.

Name: B.A.H. Owen (baho@utah-inter.net) Time: 12/9/97 (14:54:16)
Christa McAuliffe is honored as an astronaut even though the Challenger space shuttle tragically exploded before she had ever travelled the required fifty miles above the earth. If Major Lawrence's name does not belong on the memorial for fallen astronauts, then neither does hers.

Name: Dave Spriggs (spriggs@worldnet.att.net) Time: 12/9/97 (13:49:51)
Re: Larry Lawrence. His wife was correct. Larry couldn't possibly rest in peace in Arlington. Indeed, that is all the more reason to leave him there.

Just think of the eternal shame his soul will feel lying among the true heroes of this country who didn't have to lie to qualify for interment. Let the visitors to the other hallowed graves look upon his headstone and reflect on the loss of honor and integrity that is taking place in this country.

Re: Major Lawrence. If Major Lawrence was a military officer of honor, truth, and integrity, (and I have no reason to believe that he was not) then I wonder if he would condone what has been done in his name? Would he really want an honor bestowed on him which he did not earn?

Have we so quickly forgotten the media circus over Admiral Boorda and the questionable Combat "V" which he wore? Of course it was unfortunate that he never had the opportunity to fly higher than 50 miles into space. Of course life is unfair. But, are we now to honor people for what they might have done, if not for Fate?

I hope that his family (and the Air Force) are proud of what they have done and now feel good. After all, isn't that the objective now, to "feel good", no matter what clever, deceptive, or politically correct ruse you must employ to achieve that feeling?

Assuming that Major Lawrence's only child chose not attend the ceremony because he or she disapproved of this scam, then he or she has my admiration for retaining some measure of honor in that family.

Re: San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown. Clearly, Mayor Brown slept through that portion of the Marion Barry Famous Mayors Correspondence Course on election rigging. Hey Willie, if you want to fix an election, call in the pros from DC.

Re: Lorena Bobbitt. I just bet that the attack on her mother was provoked by her mother's aggressive and abusive coaching style ..... oops, I'm starting to get my outrages confused.

They're all starting to look alike. Bad timing, Lorena. Johnie Cochran's all booked up for the next few weeks with Latrell Sprewell.
