The Athens Institute was founded in 1992 to encourage the basic values which constitute the foundation of democratic societies. These values include independence of thought, self-reliance, individualism, hard work, personal responsibility, honesty,
perseverance, and intellectual courage.
Athens is not affiliated with any particular religious or political creed. The Athens Institute is a not-for-profit educational foundation pursuant to section 501(c)3 of the United State Internal Revenue Code.
Athens New Media, an affiliate of the Athens Institute, creates and produces a network of Internet sites designed to encourage the values referenced above. Positive Press and Positive Net utilize an affirmative, optimistic perspective - lauding those who exhibit perseverance,
honesty, and personal responsibility. The Outrage takes the negative angle - using satire to castigate people and institutions who subvert or undermine the basic values vital to the continued existence of a free society.
The Outrage is particularly concerned with the perversion of the American legal system. Courts should be instruments of impartial justice - not mechanisms for the enrichment of lawyers and plaintiffs.
The Outrage is also concerned with combatting the tendency in modern society towards "victimization", or the idea that one is not responsible for one's actions.
The Athens Institute is named for the City of Athens, Greece. Ancient Greece was not only the birthplace of democratic
government, but the foundation of all Western Civilization. Ethics, politics, philosophy, culture and art were all cultivated in the city of Athens at the dawn of the Western World. The name also reflects our interest in reaching a broad international audience.
Athens is located just outside Washington, DC. Our mailing address is:
